The celebrated University of Birmingham Big Band and popular jazz group Beebe, led by saxophonist Chris ‘BB’ Aldridge, are sharing the limelight after receiving equal votes from the Rush Hour Blues audience.

Almost 400 votes were cast in the audience poll, which has been won in previous years Bryan Corbett and the Walsall Jazz Orchestra amongst others.

Rush Hour Blues is run by Town Hall and Symphony Hall in conjunction with Birmingham Jazz. Now in its sixth year, the popular early evening session is held in the Level 3 foyer of Symphony Hall and regularly welcomes audiences of up to 400 people every Friday.

Famous musicians who have performed at Rush Hour Blues include Soweto Kinch, winner of the 2007 Mercury Music Prize and Paul Robinson – Nina Simone’s drummer for 20 years. The series also provides a platform for local talent and emerging artists.

The University of Birmingham Big Band will play Rush Hour Blues on 26 March while Beebe will play a second Poll Winners’ concert on 2 July at 5.30pm.
