Belcea Quartet (c) Shelia Rock EMI Classics
Of all the younger British quartets, the Belcea Quartet has earned an international reputation for some of the most polished and committed performances you will hear today. At Town Hall they play two masterpieces: Schubert’s Death and the Maiden Quartet, with its slow movement of heart-melting pathos, and Beethoven’s epic First Razumovsky Quartet.
BBC Music magazine’s Editor Oliver Condy explains why he has recommended tonight’s concert:
“Here’s the perfect partnership of music and musicians – the brilliant, young Belcea Quartet tackle two masterpieces by two geniuses of the genre, Schubert and Beethoven.”
